Bulletin Term 6
We have enjoyed a successful year at Blockley. For the end of KS2 SATs results, once again Blockley has achieved above the national expected standards and most importantly, we are delighted with the pupils’ positive attitudes and progress.
Alongside these results we have also had a very eventful term with a variety of curriculum enhancing experiences.
Bikeability – year 5
The year 5 pupils participate in optional Bikeability cycle training that equips them with a vital life skill. Learning to ride safely on the road, the pupils not only improve their cycling, they gain independence, social skills and a sense of wellbeing. After Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and report increased confidence nationally.
Well done to the pupils who took part this year and gained their certificates. Riding around Blockley isn’t easy with a hill in every direction!
Year 6 leavers service – Gloucester Cathedral
Year 6 pupils had a moving experience at Gloucester Cathedral, participating in a celebration of their time at primary school with pupils from around the county. A wonderful opportunity for the Diocese of Gloucester family of schools to come together to celebrate their journey into secondary school.
Governor in School week
Governors were able to spend time in the classrooms during governor in school week, seeing the school in action and able to see how well the pupils had progressed throughout the year.
Tennis Festival – CCS – year 3 and 4
Class 3 went to Chipping Campden School earlier in the term to compete in a tennis tournament against other local schools. We have some skilled tennis players in the school and well done to all.
SATs
Year 6 pupils who took the KS2 SATs were very calm and ready to perform their best for these tests. A real opportunity for the pupils to shine and show off their learning.
We chose to use the KS1 papers for year 2 pupils who gradually took the papers during lesson time but under exam conditions, good practise for their future life.
Going for Gold
All pupils had the opportunity to beat the school athletics records in throwing, long jump and high jump. Winners each year have their names displayed on our Going for Gold board in school.
Sports Day
A warm day! However, with some slight adjustments to the events and times we were all able to enjoy a successful day. Our team events took place in the morning, with slightly cooler temperatures, where pupils demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship. A break inside and then short running races took place after lunch, with a parental audience to cheer the pupils on!
Fosseway Chamber Concert
KS2 pupils were able to walk to church to listen to and engage with this concert run by the Fosseway Chamber Orchestra. The conductor introduced each piece to the pupils and adults were very impressed with the way they responded to the conductor. A fantastic opportunity to listen to a live orchestra locally. We look forward to being given this opportunity again in the future.
New Reception
The new reception pupils have had an opportunity to experience school life with a number of induction sessions. Parents were able to meet during the first session and chat with parents of older children who were kindly providing drinks – thank you FOS. All the children settled in very well adapting quickly to the new environment.
Bishops Visitor
We welcomed the Bishop’s Visitor to school this term. She has been visiting our school for a number of years so is very familiar with our school, its values and ethos. In her post visit letter she thanked the staff and children for their very warm welcome and for making her visit so interesting and enjoyable.
Bio Blitz
The pupils took part in a BioBlitz at Blockley churchyard run by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. They were able to search for birds, insects, reptiles, plants and mammals that live in the churchyard and record their findings.

Open the Book
Pupils and staff alike enjoy a weekly collective worship given by a team of local volunteers who perform a Bible Story to the pupils with pupil involvement in acting out the sessions. Thank you to the team who have given up so much time this year to engage and teach the pupils in this way.
Library Assembly
A lady from Gloucestershire libraries introduced The Library Challenge. Look out at the local library, at Chipping Campden or Moreton-in-Marsh, for events that are happening and enjoy borrowing books and reading with your child over the summer.
Year 6 Leavers – Blockley Church
As part of the transition process, year 6 leavers visited the churchyard to take part in various activities and talk about their move to secondary school.
Marvellous Music
We held our Marvellous Music concert on Thursday 10th July which was a celebration of our pupils’ musicality and talents. We were treated to performances from a range of instrumentalists including flautists, pianists, saxophonists and clarinet and recorder players together with a number of incredible vocalists including the school choir.
Despite the soaring temperatures, the hall was packed to the rafters and the evening was a roaring success.
EYFS end of year celebration
Teddy Bear Picnic – reception pupils are looking forward to a picnic with their parent/carer and special toy as an end of year celebration.
Residential
Year 6 pupils are enjoying a range of activities on residential away from the routine of home and school. A good opportunity to gain in confidence before the start at their new school in September.
Leavers Assembly
We say an official goodbye to our year 6 in their leavers assembly – a few teary eyes are predicted. We wish them all the success in their new settings.

Inter Primary school maths challenge
Blockley entered three teams of year 5 and year 6 to an inter Primary School maths challenge at Chipping Campden Secondary School. With six schools competing we came 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Fantastic mathematics skills.
