Class 4 – WK 30/03/20 – Reading comprehension

Reading comprehension

You are going to read an extract called Rainforest Deforestation.  What does the word ‘deforestation’ mean? Can you remember we explored this in a science lesson?

Please read though the text once. Then in your English book, write the title of the text and the date. Please re-read the text and note down any words that you do not know the meaning of. You can discuss these with an adult, research it, find a synonym or definition of the word and write it down. This will go towards building up a vocabulary dictionary!

Once you have done the above, you can begin to have a go at some of the questions.

The text comes with three sets of questions, this can be distinguished by the amount of stars they are given. I would like everybody to have a go at the questions that have two stars (middle ability). If you find this easy, then have a go at the questions that have three stars. But if you find it too tricky, have a go at the questions with 1 star. If you think two stars is the level for you, then stick with it!

If you can/would like to then you can print the questions and text off and stick it into your English book.

Thought of the Day

This term we are thinking about the importance of treating others with respect even if we sometimes do not agree with the way they behave or the things they say. We have also been thinking about how we should treat the things that belong to us and to other people respectfully.
• Think of some practical ways that you show respect to each other in your family.
• Often we show respect to someone by the way we speak to them.  What does this mean in practice?
• Do you treat one another’s possessions with respect? What does this mean in practice?
