Youth Speaks

On Tuesday 8th April selected pupils from Class 5 represented Blockley at the 28th annual Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition.  The pupils have to make a speech for not more than five minutes on a given subject in front of teachers, parents, friends and the judges.  This year the subject was ‘sometime’.  There were 9 entrants from local primary Schools. Sophia succeeded in coming second.  Well done girls!

VE80 Day Celebration

The whole school joined members of the village at the war memorial to remember VE day.  The choir performed to those present with a memorable rendition of V is for Victory and You Are My Sunshine, dressed in period clothes.  Pupils were able to reflect on the sacrifices of those who fought to keep our country and understand the importance of peace today.

FOS Fundraising

Thank you to Blockley Friends of the School who continue to come up with ideas to fundraise for the school.  Please continue to support their activities – ice creams on a warm day (or even a not so warm day) are always a lovely end to the day!  The money they raise really supports the school.  As well as big projects they also support transport costs on school visits making sure that the trips that we do as a school are as affordable as possible.  Without this support many of the visits supporting the curriculum would be cost prohibitive.  Thank you.

Kingham Sculpture Gardens

Years 3, 4 and 5 were able to have a sneak preview at the display in the gardens of Kingham Lodge.  Set in 5 acres of beautiful grounds, hundreds of sculptures are displayed with imagination and humour to create a wonderful visit experience.  An inspiring visit for budding artists!

Knex Final

Well done to Heidi and Lottie who attended the Knex final at Renishaw plc, having to create a model out of Knex with a given brief, alongside pupils from other schools.  A great creation and experience for the pupils.

Nature in Art

KS1 visited the Nature in Art museum as part of their art topic. They enjoyed a tour of the museum, creating an Andy Goldsworthy piece of art and a shaving foam activity. The children also saw the artist in residence and learnt what this entails.  The children had a great time and learnt lots about art in nature.

Class 5 Art

Class 5 have studied William Morris’s flowing, nature-inspired designs to create their own and then using Microsoft Word, they have created their own repeating pattern designs.

Class 5 Science

Investigating the properties of light in science.

Class 2

Class 2 have had a very busy term. The children have settled into their new routines fantastically and we are very proud of them.

This term we have been busy out and about in Blockley. We planned a walk looking at all the key human and physical features, we then walked the route to ensure we hadn’t missed anything out.

As part of being healthy we have also been busy planning and making healthy sandwiches. The children used a variety of different foods to ensure all areas of a balanced diet were included, they made some very adventurous sandwiches indeed!

Wildlife

Pupils have been watching collared doves nest and hatch by Class 2.  It is amazing how quickly they grow up!  They have now flown the nest as can be seen by the pictures of the birds in the bushes after their first flight.

Walk to School Week 2025 – 19th-23rd May

We have been participating in Walk to School week this week.  We understand that many of you have no choice but to drive to school but if it is possible walking or wheeling to school has many benefits.  In this intergalactic challenge ‘The Great Space Walk’ pupils have been learning of the benefits of not using the car and having physical exercise:  mental health, physical health, sustainability, road safety, community – connecting with others and surroundings.

Class 4 World War One work

Term 6

We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Tuesday 3rd June.

Value

THANKFULNESS

Count your blessings’ is an old saying, but it reminds us to be thankful and not take things for granted.
As a family you may like to talk about
• Remembering to let other people know when you are thankful
• Not taking things for granted
• Practical ways of showing gratitude
• How it feels when someone thanks you!

Thought of the Day

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.  Have you used them to say thank you?
